Quick, Easy Sketch to Capture a Memory

Reflections Lake is located at the Knik River exit between Anchorage and Palmer, Alaska. I drove past that exit dozens of times before I stopped to explore. What I found was a peaceful boardwalk around the little lake, hidden from the highway.

Making a sketch of a place is a heart-filling way to remember special places. Using the markers to scribble out basic shadow shapes, and colored pencils to indicate the rest, are really easy ways to make a sketch. You don’t have to have highly developed drawing skills to make this piece.

It’s fast to do with a high level of success. Give it a try today!

Supply List:
  • Drawing paper

  • Mechanical pencil: or a fine, hard pencil to make light lines

  • Knife: To sharpen colored pencils. X-acto knives work great

  • Pencil sharpener: a metal, hand sharpener works best

  • Kneaded eraser

  • Colored pencils: in landscape colors. I’m particularly fond of the Prismacolor 24-pencil set
